Forced Order

Feels like a slightly odd release from Revelation Records this one. Not that the label hasn't made some left of centre choices in the past I guess so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Two raging tracks on offer with two other tracks of..noise.

Forced Order - Retribution

There's a yellow vinyl version out of 300 but I've got no idea on this grey vinyl -700???

Start Glowing Today

I think like most of the good folk out there in blogging land, when Revelation Records re-issued this record on glow in the dark vinyl I couldn't resist.

Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today

Embossed cover with printed inner sleeve. Winner!

Soul Search

The backlog is getting pretty severe now so I really need to get cracking on getting up to date. Time just isn't my friend at the mo. Anyway, to kill two birds with one stone lets focus on Soul Search.

Soul Search - Nothing But A Nightmare

I loved the bands 'Bury The Blame' release from a couple of years ago so looked forward to this Revelation Records re-release of 'Nothing But A Nightmare'. It's quality too. I really enjoyed this, it will be getting some more spins for sure.

I believe this was released on dark grey and light grey although I have no idea of numbers, nor do I know which this is. Dark grey? It must be right??

Soul Search / Minus - Split

I'd picked this up a short while ago too, the split release between Soul Search and Minus. The Soul Search tracks on here are decent too although I've gotta say I prefer what's going on on 'Nothing But A Nightmare' to the tracks here.

The Minus tracks are pretty decent too, I'm actually not that familiar with them but I seem to remember thinking I need to check them out further last time I listened to this. Red vinyl of which 800 were pressed. 500 were on clear and 200 on clear with red splatter.

New York Crew

Some poor sap listed this on eBay as 'Judge Record', so I knew not many people would stumble upon it. It turned out no one else did and I scored this for 99p!!!!! Brilliant

Judge - New York Crew

Much like the Chain Of Strength 7" I picked up recently there's really not a lot to say about this Rev classic. It's Judge, it's New York Crew! It's hardcore history!!

I believe this is the second press which were all black with the yellow sleeve as opposed to orange.

Forgotten Goals

So last year I think it was, Rev put out a gold reissue of the first Civ record. I ordered it and it completely escaped me that it actually never turned up. That was, until an email came from the store I'd ordered it from asking if I was ok with them sending me a Pink copy as they had never got the gold version in.

Civ - Set Your Goals

To be honest I just wanted a coloured vinyl copy and wasn't bothered if it was gold or pink. This colour seems to suit the cover pretty well so it's all good in my book.

Who doesn't love this record? Back when it first came out I thought it was great and listening again now it's not hard to see why. Great infectious stuff mixing hardcore and that more pop-punk kinda sound perfectly. Shame the follow up was a bit of a stinker.

Pink vinyl version is out of 550 pressed. Here it sits with the black version of the record I already had.

Not RSD '14

As I always say, I have a load of stuff to blog about. I'm gonna jump up the pile a bit though so that this post is at least semi current and also to take four records off the pile in one swoop.

So Record Store Day 2014 has come and gone and on the day in question I looked on in interest (via twitter etc) at the queues outside record stores near me, some fools were queueing from the evening previous. MADNESS!! Me? I stayed in bed, there was only a couple of things I wanted and I just couldn't be bothered with it for the second year running. What I did was wait until the following week like I had done a year previous feeling pretty damn confident that at least two of the three things I had any interest in would still be sat on the shelf waiting for me. And what do you know...

Battery - What Ever It Takes

This was my main want so I was pleased to grab it off the shelf, a repress of Battery What Ever It Takes. This is a good pressing of the record too, I remember having a copy of this before years ago and it didn't sound brilliant. This on the other hand must have been remastered etc because it sounds great. Orange vinyl limited to 700 copies.

Up Front - Spirit

Released originally in 1988 and never having owned a copy previously I was stoked when I heard that Spirit by Up Front was getting the reissue treatment from Smorgasbord Records. I wasn't sure if the shop would actually have this but there it was on the shelf. On paying the guy at the counter said they'd only got one copy of this in and he couldn't believe no one had picked it up on Record Store day. He said it with a shake of the head and we exchanged a knowing look. Great record.

Sensefield - Building

I actually wasn't as bothered about this record as the other two and figured it would probably be my make do record for the lack of Up Front. However, it being there with the others I couldn't help but pick it up too. Not that it's not a fine record, I remember a friend playing this to me back in '95 and me not liking it much at first, but slowly I dug it. I just wasn't excited about it. I am pleased to have picked it up though.

On leaving that store I ventured to a non Record Store Day store to see if they had anything worth picking up (the change was burning a hole in my pocket).

Pantera - Far Beyond Driven

I was feeling metal (pronounced Mettttaaaaaalllllll) so it was no surprise that this reissue of Pantera Far Beyond Driven caught my eye. Look at that rather unsavoury originally banned cover. This is on double vinyl and sounds great. I always liked this record, it's not as immediate or anthem filled as Vulgar Display and probably not as angry or forward thinking as Great Southern Trendkill but over the years it grew on me a lot. I once watched a stripper strip to 5 Minutes Alone too so that song has new memory's attached to it now haha. The gatefold features the more well known version of the album cover.

So, Record Store Day, once again I've picked up what I wanted without having to get up at stupid o'clock. Seems to me that unless you're after Bowie reissues or One Direction 7"s (really???) then you can just cruise up to your local store as normal and pick up the RSD releases at your leisure. Which once again raises the question, who exactly is getting in line on Record Store Day??

REV Lot

It makes sense to post about all of these together as they are all Revelation Records releases. I didn't buy them all together they just happened to all be on the blog pile that's been building up for the last few months. Most don't need much introduction obviously and all but one I've either owned or own other versions of the same release. But anyway, getting down to it.

Chain Of Strength - The One Thing That Still Holds True

Recent Rev repress of this classic. The Green looked great so I couldn't resist picking up another copy.

Side By Side - You're Only Young Once

One of the two records I'm gonna show in this post that I used to own but didn't have a copy of at the moment. I don't know why it's taken so long to get a copy of this again truth be told but it was finally time to pick it up again whilst making an order direct from Rev.

Various - Rev 150 : Past/Present

Not the greatest Rev release of all time but I wanted to listen to it recently but couldn't find it in my record collection, it was then I realised that I only owned it on CD. Had to fix that.

Kiss It Goodbye - Target Practice / Preacher

I love Kiss It Goodbye but didn't have a copy of this 7". It was again time to correct this.

Burn - S/T

Is there anyone that doesn't love this Burn record? No, thought not. When I saw how sweet this Blue press looked I had to nab one. As they were easy to reach see below my little group shot of Burn records. Far from complete but pretty non the less.

Youth Of Today - Disengage

Flicking through a rack at a record store I visited on my travels I found this copy of the Disengage 7" on Black. Didn't have it on Black so for a few quid I figured I'd pick it up. Who can resist?

Gorilla Biscuits - S/T

Same store also had this. Now of course I already had a copy of this on Black with the red text but this copy looked different so I picked it up. On getting home I found I was right, the copy I already owned had bolder text and a different back. Obviously different presses. For a few pounds I can handle a variant.

Bold - S/T

Another record I owned some years ago and it just seems to have taken me forever to put any version of the Bold 7" back into my collection. I saw this recently for not very much so picked it up.

The Lost And The Damned

Okay so I know this isn't a 'Bringin' It Down' or a 'True Till Death' but Rev colour vinyl for £2, come on, you know you'd be all over that shit.

Living Hell - the lost and the damned

I owned this a few years ago on CD and must admit I didn't spend a huge amount of time listening to the record but when I saw this on eBay with no bids I stuck in a small offer just for the hell of it and ended up winning as the only person wanting to give this record a home. Listening again now it's not actually a bad record, in fact it's pretty good. I don't know why this didn't make more of an impact on me originally, though did it make an impact on anyone? It was a strange release for Revelation, this came out in 2007 alongside releases from Down To Nothing and Sinking Ships who seem far more apt for the label than this Integrity style stuff.

This is the grey vinyl version of the record of which 330 where pressed. Decent record, Bargain price!

Spring Songs

Okay, so if this wasn't on Rev I probably wouldn't have bought this.

Title Fight - Spring Songs

You can probably tell that though from the fact I have a boring Black second press copy of the record. It's not that I dislike Title Fight, they're okay, it's just not where I'm at musically at the moment, gimme 6 months and i'll probably be all over this. So yeah, I was in no rush to pick this up at all but when it was staring back at me in a record store I was always going to pick it up just to add to the Rev collection.

Past Our Means

I'd got back on track a bit in December with trying to catch up on my blog posts but the new year has brought the same old problem. More records than I have time to post about. Is that a problem? depends which way you look at it I suppose. That being said here's a quick one.

Ignite - Past Our Means

I picked this up in a second hand record store for a couple of quid. This was literally the only decent record in the entire place, in fact I have no idea what it was even doing there. Nothing special just the boring black version of the E.P but who doesn't pick up a Rev record for a couple of quid when it's right in front of them?

Solid enough record if by no means my favourite Ignite material. Another Rev record crossed off the non existent list too.

El Diablo

Back in May 2012 I wrote about a couple of Will Haven records I'd picked up here . At the end of the post I said I needed to start my search for El Diablo the bands debut full length on red vinyl. Truth is though that I'd already been looking and it had eluded me.....Until now!!

Will Haven - El Diablo

This did appear one time before on eBay but I somehow missed the end of the auction and it slipped through my fingers, although it did go for more than I'd have wanted to really pay for it. Recently when it appeared again for the first time in forever on UK eBay (trust me I know, it was the first thing I'd search for every day in 2013) I wasn't going to let it go again. I scored it at the opening bid price despite putting in a bid of double so was delighted when the auction ended.

This was released in 1997 by Revelation Records sister label Crisis Records and I can't tell you how much I love this record. It's definitely the bands best output for my money, listen to 'I've Seen My Fate' for any proof needed on how great this record is and how good this band were around this time. I have no idea how many were pressed on red vinyl anyone help me out here with a number? I'd guess between 500 and 1000.

I always found the back cover and inlay picks of the guy in the devil mask really eerie and creepy, especially the hallway one, in fact I have always thought either would have made better covers for the record. I'm delighted to finally have all Will Havens records on colour vinyl and I can cross this baby off my ever expanding wants list.

The Earth Is Flat

Supertouch - The Earth Is Flat

Because of the delay in posting this one up Mike over at The One Thing That Still Holds True kinda took the words out of my mouth regarding my initial feelings on Supertouch way back in the day. Probably because of the time I first heard this record (mid 90's) and what I was into at the time I just didn't get into this record at all. In fact it's only been in the last couple of years that I've come to appreciate it at all as I feel my musical taste buds have changed and maybe even matured slightly. But since then I've been hoping for a repress of this sucker and it finally arrived.

It's ace looking too on Blue vinyl that compliments the cover really well and something about that centre label with the same colour blue also making this thing just look really great.

This repress is on a gatefold sleeve unlike the original too which also looks good and gives it a quality feel. 550 pressed on blue vinyl.

Blue Nothing

A little later than I would have liked to post this one up comes the second new full length release from Revelation Records of the year.

Down To Nothing - Life On The James

I like this new release from Down To Nothing a lot. Is it their best work? No. Is it a quality record non the less? You bet ya it is. It's infectious and I think musically shows a maturity we can afford Down To Nothing in 2013. This could be one of my summer go to records for a few years to come. Shame it's f'ing freezing outside!

As a Yorkshire man I'm on board with a track called 'Sheffield' too. This was pressed on Blue vinyl and Green vinyl. I landed the Blue version. I actually don't know which is most limited. The Blue vinyl with it's White marbling looks great though.
