Through The Turnstile Into 2015

Hi gang! Sorry for the delay in getting a post done in 2015! A brother is busy like a mutha-fucker at the minute. Truth be told in order to keep this blog going for the foreseeable future I'm probably gonna have to take to just posting pictures of the records I buy or something. I just don't have time to sit down and write stuff at the minute. Not great reading but bear with me.

So anyway...

Turnstile - Pressure To Succeed

So we're on to the fourth pressing of this record and I'm completely fine with that 'cos frankly I fucking love these tunes. This is the purple version out of 1000. I like that Reaper have changed the colours of the cover for each pressing.

They've changed the centre labels front and back too which again is a nice touch. This is the white/purple version out of 500. Truth be told neither of these are very purple, I've noticed recently a lot of the Reaper releases don't look how they do at the point of pre-order. I guess that's because they do a 'artists impression' or something before they are pressed.

Green and Black version out of 300. For some reason this one has the 3rd press cover?!? Maybe they ran out I dunno, everyone else get theirs in this cover?

Shocking group shot I know, you'll have to excuse the massive amounts of glare. Still missing a few. Anyone help a brother out??

Pressure To Succeed

Represses are always a bone of contention on the most part. Usually I don't get sucked into collecting them all unless it's a record I really like and goddamn I like this record.

Turnstile - Pressure To Succeed

In this instance at least Reaper Records went to the trouble of changing the covers and labels and not just the vinyl colour so it at least feels like I'm getting a completely different record. This is the Blue vinyl of the Pressure To Succeed repress (a different colour blue to the first press) of 300.

This is the Orange vinyl of 700. I'm not sure what I think about the new covers, I think I prefer the original blue ones although the pre-order cover is still my favourite.

And the Clear vinyl of 1000. As mentioned, Reaper did change the centre labels as you can see, which is cool and gives the record a different feel visually. The back of the labels now has this picture.

I'm just missing the test press still of this release after Tino helped me get hold of the release show cover version last year, but as there's only 10 I don't hold much hope of ever getting one. Anyway here's what a near complete collection looks like. That Green cover version is still the most limited of the regular release copies, although I have noticed the amount has changed a few times on the Reaper site, it did say 132 for a time which is I think more than it was originally quoted at and it's now changed to 200. Any ideas on that one Willem?

Through The Turnstile Again

You know how it is, a second press of a record is released, you have no intention of picking it up and then some pesky blogger goes and points out that there's differences between the pressings and suddenly you HAVE to have one.

Turnstile - Step 2 Rhythm

It was Mike in this instance who posted up his newly acquired copies of this repress from Reaper Records. Despite having a decent collection of the bands first single I'm still not entirely impressed with this offering so wasn't going to bother, especially as Mike had received two copies of the second press but only one had a different sleeve, however I took the risk and luckily got a second press sleeve.

The differences other than the Pink vinyl obviously are that the sleeve is slightly darker than the first press and has 'Second Press' printed on the back. The vinyl it's self this time round isn't as thick as the first press versions.  Also the B-side label has changed.

Of course now I have this version of the second press and three copies of the record in total I'm now thinking I should really pick up the two colours I'm missing (See Mike's group shot here). Quite the reversal of thinking eh? My other two posts on this record can be read here and here .

Tinostile

This week I managed to get a record off my want list thanks to Tino . I'd looked enviously on at his pre-order cover version of the Turnstile Pressure To Succeed record when he posted about it earlier this year, but it just wasn't turning up in the right places for me. Luckily it was 'blogging crew' to the rescue for me when out of the blue Tino sent me an email saying one had appeared on eBay Germany and seeing as the shipper was only posting to the fatherland he'd help me acquire it.

When Tino asked me how much I wanted to pay for this it couldn't have come at a worse time as I'd already spent enough money on records last month (and I'll blog about them at some point) but luckily for me I was the only bidder so I scored this for a really good price.

Tino dealt with the seller direct and even got him to send it straight to me rather than it having to come to Tino first. Being the good guy that he is Tino wouldn't accept any money for the record until I had it safely in my hands either. Once again the guys who make up this little community really are diamonds to a man!

So this is the record in all it's glory and I'm stoked to finally have it. 217 made on clear vinyl. Which I just realised actually makes the green cover the rarest version. I think I actually prefer this cover to the standard one.

Although that might just be because of how familiar I am with the regular cover. Cue glorious group shot.

I think the only version of this I'm missing now is the test press with the dude wearing the Raiders poncho on the front which I suspect will be near impossible to ever get hold of, but never say never I guess.  I wonder if Mario has a Raiders poncho? Nothing says Gangster like a Raiders poncho.

Thanks again Tino!

Step 2 Willems Rhythm

A few weeks back I posted about Turnstiles new 7" Step 2 Rhythm here. In the post I bemoaned not picking up the green version of the record at the same time I'd picked up the white version. The white version was more limited but I think the green looks better. Luckily Willem heard my whining and left me a comment saying he had a spare if I wanted it. I did want it and after a couple of emails we struck a good deal.

So thanks to Willem here is my copy of Step 2 Rhythm on Green of 1000 copies. In my last post about this record I was kinda getting used to the change of direction but I dunno, it stills seems a disappointment after Pressure To Succeed.

Willem being a top guy also threw in a couple of other records into my package that he had doubles of.

The Bridge Nine repress of Underdogs Self Titled EP.

This is the red first press of 1000. I didn't have this so it was a welcome addition to the collection.

Willem also chucked in a copy of this:

Inherit - The Crushing Wheels Of Samsara. I'd heard of Inherit but don't think I'd ever heard them before. This one caught me by surprise actually. When I first dropped the needle on it I was kinda like ' What the fuck is this?' but by the end of the side I was banging my head along to Long Forgotten Self. I like this.

The layout for this is ace and this appears to be the mail order edition and numbered 68 out of 100

Green Vinyl. Thanks again for the freebies Willem.

Step 2 Rhythm

Turnstiles debut 7" Pressure To Succeed was a ripper of a debut, I absolutely loved it, so when it was announced that a new 7" was on its way I was pretty excited.
It seems a lot of people were excited too as although I seemed to arrive pretty soon after it had been put up for pre-order I missed the rarest version of the record on black (300), at least I think I did, it seemed to be available but wouldn't let me order one so I made do with the white version of 500. Although it's actually more of a gray than white. Transition from the black version maybe? I would have picked up a version on green (1000) too but man those postage rates are a killer at the moment.

Musically this has a really different vibe to Pressure To Succeed and Turnstile seem to have gone a bit 'Take Offence' with the introduction of some clean sung vocals to their sound. It took me by surprise quite a lot at first listen and I wasn't sure I was into it but on further listens I'm ok with it and the singing on Keep It Moving especially is annoyingly catchy. In fact the singing makes Turnstile sound like another band and I just can't think who but it's been annoying me for days.

That "I'm gonna break you down" drop in Canned Heat is pretty cool and got me moving.

The Extermination Finally!!

I didn't know if I'd ever be writing this blog post but thankfully I am. It's a long and complicated story but basically I've been waiting for this record since June. The Extermination Compilation on Flatspot Records.

This record initially went up for pre-order in I believe April and despite it featuring four bands I really like I didn't order it straight away. I'd had a problem with an order from Flatspot before and I decided I just couldn't be bothered to order from them again. So it's probably my own fault that two months later the desire to own the Backtrack song in particular got the better of me and I thought 'everyone deserves a second chance' and placed my order.
Two months later and with no sign of it I mailed Flatspot with a polite 'has this record been sent out of interest?'. 'Yeah dude it's been sent, should be with you soon' was the response. A few weeks later and still nothing so I sent another email, 'not sure what happened but I've sent it now' came another response...hmmmm. A week or so later I saw a post from Flatspot on their Twitter account saying 'sending more records out' and a picture of said mail out, and there was my address staring back at me, so ok fair enough it hadn't been sent yet like I'd been told but it was now on it's way...phew...all I had to do was wait. Then this arrived:

I know what you're thinking, that's not The Extermination Comp, nope it's not, this is the cart filler record I added to my order to make the postage worthwhile and I didn't have this Police and Thieves 7" already. Great record of course but where the fuckity fuck is my comp?
So I emailed again and again got the standard 'dunno what happened' etc. Anyway to cut the rest of this short, twice more I've emailed and been told it had been sent, the last time apparently it had been sent with some free records, well it arrived on it's own so god only knows what that was all about.
Now to make matters worse I've really gotta echo my mate Marios comments about the state of the packaging too, theres a great picture on his blog here that shows exactly the way Flatspot pack records. It leads to this happening -

The side of the record sleeve is split and scuffed to shit. Typical.
Look, on a positive this record looks great and is a ripper of a compilation. The Backtrack song is awesome (this band can do no wrong at the moment) and the Suburban Scum track might be the best track I've heard from them too. The blue vinyl and packaging also look great. It's just a shame I had to be obviously lied to before recieving it. Fuck I've been in bands and into hardcore long enough to know running a label is a difficult and mostly thankless task and I really have no problem having to wait for months for a record to drop through my letter box but some honesty and decent mail packaging is really all I ask for.

Turnstile

When I started to get back into vinyl last year Turnstile - Pressure To Succeed was the record I bought that kinda triggered it. It wasn't just buying this record of course, I mean I'd been looking at vinyl again and thinking about buying them again but it was this release that I bought first because I'd downloaded it previously and loved it. I saw the blue vinyl first pressing one day and just thought 'yeah, I'm having that'.

One day a couple of weeks ago I looked at the Reaper Records webstore out of boredom as much as anything, when I noticed at the side of the page under top sellers 'Turnstile - Pressure To Succeed 7" Limited Cover 2nd Press'. Limited Cover? I'd only just bought the standard second press, what was all this about? Turns out Reaper ran out of covers, I presume for the last 132 copies of the second press (as that's how many of these there are), and pressed up the above green version of the sleeve.

This version just has a photocopied one side inner unlike the normal pressings. Here's a pic of the three pressings together. Would look a whole lot better if I had the pre-order cover version too.

Oh and props to Reaper for the speedy delivery they always manage. Considering I'm still waiting for a couple of things from U.S labels that were ordered months ago I really appreciate how quickly they get their stuff to me.

Reaper Round Up

I've had Turnstiles - Pressure To Succeed 7" first pressing on blue vinyl for quite a while now and it's a record I just don't get bored of. It's a hell of an impressive debut, I like it alot. So when I read on Mikes blog that a second pressing had been released by Reaper Records on the far less exciting black vinyl I knew I wanted a copy of that version too. I didn't even know it had been re-pressed, I just can't keep up sometimes.

Anyway here they both are. 830 on Blue and 300 on Black:

So in order to once again make a dent in my own back log - whilst in the Reaper webstore I also picked up some other releases by them that I didn't have.

S.O.S - I owe you nothing. I actually did have this but on CD, which I sold so I had to pick up a vinyl copy. Black and Gold Mix of 450.

Naysayer - No Remorse. This is the second press on red of 980. It has the familiar Reaper Records centre that a few other releases by them also use, such as Trapped Under Ice - Stay Cold.

Terror - Rhythm Amongst The Chaos. Which has some sweet packaging.

and Death Threat - Lost At Sea. Blue Vinyl of 980.
